Here are a few things you should know when using third party content:

1. All content will require some sort of media player, whether it's a customized, web-based payer offered by the content provider, or a more common player available for download. In any event, these players are usually free of charge. The two most common are Real Media Player and Windows Media Player. Real Media Player will charge you only if you wish to subscribe to their premium content service. Other players include Apple QuickTime, Macromedia's Flash Player and NullSoft's program, WinAmp

2. For the most part, any content offered free on the web will include advertisements, just as in television. However, we've taken great care to avoid providing you with links that will provide pop-up ads. Even so, if you notice problems with pop-up ads, or are concerned about spyware (software installed that tracks your internet usage patterns) there are several tools and programs available free of charge. Visit www.freepopupblockers.net for a list of free blockers. Clicking on a program on the left will produce a description in the middle. The link for downloading the program is found at the bottom of each description.

3. Many web-based media players open up new browser windows in order to play the content you've selected. If you use pop-up blockers, they may view these legitimate players as pop-up ads and block them. If this happens, consult the instructions for your pop-up ad blocker and include the player or website in your exceptions list. Otherwise, you may temporarily close your pop-up program while reviewing content from a particular content source.

4. We've made every effort to avoid providing links to sites that contain either less-than-desirable content or advertisements. However, in the process of surfing the web, it's extremely difficult to predict exactly what you're going to come across. If you're concerned about content, there are several good content filters available for free. For a list with links, visit www.internet-guardian.net/2/content-filters-free.htm
